Starting college is an exciting milestone, but it also comes with new financial responsibilities. From creating a budget and managing expenses to understanding credit and avoiding debt, financial decisions made during these years can have a lasting impact.

That's why Azura Credit Union is proud to partner with Washburn University to help students build a strong foundation for financial success through the university's WU Financial Wellness program. The partnership was established to provide students with practical financial education, resources and support as they transition into college life.

Financial Education Where Students Need It Most

Financial wellness is integrated directly into WU 101, Washburn University's mandatory first-year seminar course. The class helps incoming students navigate the transition to college by focusing on essential life and academic skills, including study habits, time management, information literacy and financial wellness.

As part of this partnership, Azura hosts more than 40 financial wellness workshops each year for WU 101 students. These interactive sessions cover topics such as budgeting, smart spending, saving strategies and building financial independence, giving students real-world tools they can use immediately. In addition, Azura sponsors a $1,000 scholarship drawing each semester for WU 101 students, helping further support their educational journey while encouraging participation in financial wellness programming.

Building Confidence Beyond the Classroom

Financial literacy is about more than managing money. It's about creating confidence and reducing financial stress so students can focus on achieving their academic and personal goals.

In addition to leading workshops throughout the year, Azura team members are available to provide financial wellness presentations for campus organizations and help connect students with educational resources designed to support their financial journey. The partnership also includes access to free online financial literacy modules and additional mentoring opportunities.
