Vice President of Consumer Lending

The Vice President of Lending drives the sales and operational areas of Consumer Lending and Commercial Business Lending, including, developing, executing, and refining expansion and growth initiatives, leading teams to ensure operational efficiency, as well as ensuring a consistent brand and member experience.  As a member of the Management Team, assists in the formulation and execution of credit union policies, objectives, and programs.  Implements the decisions and direction of upper management related to planning, organizing, developing, and managing of all functions of Lending.  Works closely with Retail Leaders and Marketing to ensure we are meeting and exceeding overall organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseas sales and operations with the goal of increasing consumer and business loan originations, while maintaining operational efficiencies and positive loan turn-around times and meeting service level agreements. Monitors the competition and maintains awareness of comparisons regarding rates, products, technology and service levels.
  • Provides financial guidance, leadership, and analysis to senior-level business unit leaders to support financial strategy, development and performance monitoring in the context of new volume forecasting, pricing, sales strategies, budgeting, segment/product profitability, and risk identification processes.
  • Leads, coaches and trains team to achieve business development activities including outside networking, digital and in person selling, outbound phone selling skills and targeted Commercial business members. Coaches to maximize sales and referral activities, working alongside Retail partners, to meet goals and enhance member experiences.
  • Directs and monitors all lending operations for the credit union, to insure that the credit union meets established goals and objectives. Monitors product delivery and quality and takes action to resolve problems. Leads activity related to new product development with respect to lending programs. 
  • Collaborates effectively across multiple functional areas including, but not limited to, Risk, Accounting, IT, HR, and Retail to ensure business unit financial activities and strategies are consistent and aligned with overall financial and risk objectives, macroeconomic indicator outlooks, and operational capabilities.
  • Ensures exceptional member service standards across assigned Lending functions and is responsible for the growth and development of team members through regular coaching sessions, on the spot coaching and one on one’s. Provides coaching and mentoring opportunities and conducts employee reviews. Monitors product delivery and quality and takes action to resolve problems.
  • Builds, develops and maintains strong relationships with key vendors and evaluates and negotiates contracts as necessary. Continuously researches and implements new innovative ideas and recommends enhancements to current product and service offerings.
  • Actively maintains expert level knowledge of policies and procedures that affect consumer and business lending. Demonstrates initiative in identifying problems and recommending solutions that will enhance operational efficiencies, resulting in enhanced member and employee experiences.  Responsible for internal controls and compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements related to the areas of appropriate oversight.
  • Responsible for monitoring consumer business members within the portfolio to identify deteriorating credit conditions and compliance with loan agreements, including high-risk loans. Prepares department scheduling, periodic member service department updates, and periodic reports for management's financial and operational reports. 
  • Insures credit union compliance with all lending regulations; develops procedural changes as compliance requires or new programs demand. Assists Loan officers with complicated accounts, and guides new team members on credit policy and complex financing arrangements.
  • Researches background documentation, reviews personal, business financial statements, and tax returns. Analyzes financial information and prepares detailed written analysis to include reports, summaries, loan structure and opinions for presentation to the business loan committee, as needed.
  • Hires, directs, monitors, and reviews the work of direct reports. Leads the Senior Lending Team, and serves as a member of the Business Loan Committee for review of member business loans.  Provides clear and insightful strategy development results, feedback and interpretation by way of presentations, written analysis, and/or oral reports to senior-level business leaders throughout the credit union. 

Qualifications:

  • Eight to ten years of similar or related experience.
  • Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a related field).
  • In-depth understanding of and ability to interpret regulations affecting lending programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial and real estate lending practices and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Conflict resolutions skills
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Thoroughness and good follow through skills.
  • Time management skills, working well within timelines and deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Well organized.
  • PC/technology/spreadsheets and word processing software.
